Agrell, Jeffrey - Repercussions
Associate Professor of Horn Jeffrey Agrell has taught at the University of
Iowa for the past decade after a first career as symphony musician. As a
performer/educator he has played and taught the full gamut of horn literature
for symphony orchestra, opera, musicals, ballet, operetta, solo and chamber
music, while stretching personal artistic boundaries beyond the orchestra as
a composer, writer, clinician, recording artist, and solo performer. He has
won awards as both a composer and writer, with some one hundred published
articles and a blog (hornsights.com) on horn playing. Many of his
compositions have been recorded on CD, published, and performed at contests,
festivals, and concert halls worldwide. Agrell also teaches a course in
Improvisation for Classical Musicians and is the author of Improvisation
Games for Classical Musicians and Improv Games for One Player (both GIA
Publications). He often gives classical improv concerts and workshops,
teaching classical musicians how to improvise in various (nonjazz) ways.
Outside the university, Jeffrey Agrell has been a member of the faculty of
the Asian Youth Orchestra, the Advisory Council of the International Horn
Society, and Kendall Betts Horn Camp.
